NHK & WOWOW TO PRESENT 4K HDR WORLD PREMIERE TV SCREENINGS AT MIPCOM COUNTRY OF HONOUR OPENING PARTY

Paris, 20 September 2016 – Japanese public broadcaster NHK and WOWOW, the country’s largest premium pay broadcaster, will co-host two 4K HDR world premieres at the MIPCOM 2016 Country of Honour Opening Party.

The global entertainment content market, MIPCOM runs in Cannes, France from 17-20 October 2016, during which Japan is official Country of Honour. As part of this showcase, NHK will present the legendary Asian fantasy series “Moribito II: Guardian of the Spirit”, and WOWOW will premiere “Cold Case Japan,” adapted from WB’s hit US series.

The Country of Honour Opening Party will be held at the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez on Monday 17 October from 7:30pm, and will be attended by Kento Hayashi, who stars in “Moribito”, and Yo Yoshida, a huge star of Japanese TV drama who plays the homicide detective in “Cold Case Japan”, which is having its first overseas presentation at MIPCOM. The 4K HDR World Premiere TV Screenings take place in a special 4K HDR projection room at the Party, powered by SKY PerfecTV!, the leading satellite platform covering all of Japan, with technical support by Sony Corporation, providing the latest high dynamic range (HDR) projector, VPL-VW5000ES.

The Country of Honour Opening Night Party will also feature a great line-up of entertainment, with the newest of Japanese music including live sets from Ken Ishii, DJ Calm, Tokyo jazz sextet SOIL & ”PIMP” SESSIONS, and breakbeat duo Hifana. There will also be a Kagami Biraki sake ceremony in the VIP lounge, and seven top Japanese chefs will be specially flown in to prepare food for guests.

“Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit” is a TV dramatization of a best-selling Japanese fantasy novel saga of the same name. After the success of the first series which aired this spring in Japan, NHK is releasing the second series this fall. The story is set in the world where humans and spirits commingle, and tells the tale of a prince and his beautiful female bodyguard.

“Cold Case Japan” is the first localized version of the hit US series. Originally set in Philadelphia, it saw a homicide detective take on investigations which are no longer actively pursued by the police department. The 10-episode Japanese version is co-produced by WOWOW and Warner Bros. International Television Production, with the action transposed to Yokohama.
